Ara Pacis or Altar to Peace
The altar was built 13-9 BC to honour emperor Augustus after he subjected Hispania and Gaul, which resulted in the Pax Augusta. This is the new museum that contains the altar. It was the only modernistic building that I have seen on my wanderings through Rome. Unfortunately it was closed. Also, I did not realize the that parc with the art works (which is just out of view on the right of this picture) was actually the parc that contains the Tomb of Augustus! I thought it was inside the museum as well.
